After Clare's parents invested in Whitlands vineyards back in the late 90s, proving to be a great gamble, she took over both the vineyard management and more recently has started to make her own wines.
The farming philosophy is to avoid herbicides and systemics where possible, but won't hold back spraying if disease pressure is imminent like in the current La Nina patterns.
Clare's winemaking approach is for the most part hands-off. Her guiding principle in the cellar is to make wines to taste and feel like they came from Whitlands with regard to their character, texture and process.
