One of the most well respected winemakers and extraordinary talent of Beaujolais, Jean Foillard's wines have more in common with some of Burgundy's most prized areas like Chambolle-Musigny than with Beaujolais.
Having started in 1982, first in the family domaine and then moving out on his own to rent and buy his own parcels starting with Côte du Py, but later inheriting parcels from his wife Agnes's parents in the lieu-dit Courcellette where the soils are much more granite oriented than the iron stone rich ones of Côte du Py.
Jean Foillard is a true natural winemaker both in the field and in the cellar. This means whole clusters of grapes in low temperature ferments, wild yeasts, no filtering, fining or pumping. He is a cult wine hero amongst many young vignerons around France and across the world who are looking to follow his natural path.
