Johannes Zillinger

Johannes Zillinger's father Hans was a pioneer of organic viticulture in the 1980's. The family vineyards, located in the Weinviertel region of North-Eastern Austria, have been farmed organically for nearly 40 years. In 2012 Johannes took over the family estate, and took a step further in becoming Demeter certified biodynamic in 2013.

Johannes works with classic Austrian grapes including Zweigelt, St Laurent and Gruner Veltliner, and international varieties such as Riesling, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon & Syrah. The same thoughtful approach that is taken in the vineyard, is carried over into the winery.

Fruit is handled gently, wines are made with minimal to no sulphur, fermented naturally in a mix of stainless steel, large acacia barrels and clay amphora / qvevri. Some wines are pressed off skins quickly, while others see up to 16 months maceration. The Revolution range has wine blended from a solera system to bring interest and complexity, adding a small portion of wine from previous vintages.
