Latta Vino

Owen Latta came home from school one day to find that his dad, Norman, was severely concussed from an accident in his winery. Owen took Norm’s place for the rest of the vintage. He was only 15, but having grown up around wine & vines he wasn’t intimidated. Punchdowns in the morning before catching the school bus, getting in trouble from teachers for having wine stains on his shirt. These years cemented Owen’s love of winemaking, grape growing & farming. Owen studied a Wine Science degree while doing stints at nearby vineyards & wineries. In 2006 he took over his family biz, Eastern Peake. Later that year he travelled to Burgundy, a time that drove home how his family had something truly special back in Australia. He launched his Latta label in 2013. From 2013 onwards Owen has farmed organically & is moving into biodynamics. 2024 marks Owen’s 26th vintage, (he’s only 40!). That’s 26 years making wine at the same place, from the same grapes, grown at the same site. To say he’s honed his craft is an understatement.
