Les Bertrand

The Bertrand estate was founded in the 1950s by Louis Bertrand, located in a unique spot of Beaujolais called Grand-pré. The area sits between Fleurie and Morgon and is plentiful in sandy granitic soil. The estate has a line of schist running through the property, and, in comparison to other vineyards of Fleurie, is 80% more sandy.

Three generations of family management, Yann (grandson) has now put into place a 10-year plan, monitoring the vineyard’s health and soil life across the biodynamic parcels, with the intention to convert the remaining hectares in a few years time as well.

Everything including fruit harvest is done manually and hand sorted. Ferments in the cellar are almost always 100% carbonic macerations and will rest between 6-10 months in barrel. Bottling happens in Spring in alignment with the moon.
