Weingut Melsheimer is a rare gem not often seen outside of Germany. Since 1994 the vines have been tended to organically and since 2009 all vineyard work has been done according to biodynamic principles, receiving its Demeter certification in 2013. The estate finds it’s home on the steep slopes of The Mosel, slate and quartzite soils that had vines on them since the 12th century. Thorsten Melsheimer prefers to take a hands off approach, leaving the wine to do its thing without additions or manipulations. All vintages undergo a long fermentation in old oak. He is forever experimenting with the use of skin contact and trying to add different elements to his wines.
