Created by Taras and Amber, Ochota Barrels is a name synonymous with not only the Australian minimal intervention movement but Australian Wine as a whole. The philosophy and composition of the wines are never based on recipe, rather on feeling, nose and palate. Music was and is a big part of Ochota Barrels as a whole and it can be seen in the wines. Taras once quoted “I reckon you can often see the styles of music people like in the wines they make. I like edgy music, rawer, sharper, and my wines tend to be all elbows and knees sticking out.” It’s these elbows and knees in their wines which people have grown to adore – a wicked blend of nervous tension, vibrancy and moreish-ness.
Although, sadly Taras passed away in 2020 his amazing legacy lives on in his wife Amber, Yari (Taras’ dad) and protégé Louis Schofield (who you may know from Worlds Apart Wines). The wines are still as energetic and captivating as ever, continuously finding that unmistakable balance of rawness and precision that is Ochota Barrels.
