Ojisan Wines is a project by friends Alex Craighead of New Zealand's KINDELI wines, and Kazuomi Fujimaki of Grape Republic, Japan. The guys met in 2016 when Kazu visited New Zealand to train as a winemaker. ‘Ojisan’ translates as an informal term for Uncle or middle-aged man- a playful “backhanded compliment” for coming-of-age and knowledge in winemaking. The wines themselves are likewise playful but clearly inspired. They offer restraint, detail and elegance not commonly seen at this price point in natural wine, but with plenty of pure, fresh fruit shining through from Alex’s certified organic vineyards.
