Comando G is the joint project of Fernando Garcia, of Marañones, and Daniel Landi, of his eponymous label. Based in the town of Rozas del Puerto Real, high in the Sierra de Gredos, the Comando G team produce some of the most celebrated and sought-after wines in Spain. Comando G’s Las Umbrias is a single vineyard wine grown at over 1,000 metres above sea level, near the town of Rozas de Puerto Real. The vines sit in a sheltered corner between two converging slopes which, along with the typically overcast conditions around Rozas, means they’re in nearly perpetual shade. The result is an incredibly pale, delicate and highly aromatic Garnacha. Despite it’s rose-like colour and ethereal nose, Las Umbrias is backed by a very intense, powerful structure. To borrow the phrase usually reserved for Musigny, this is as close as Garnacha gets to an iron fist in a velvet glove. - Alimentaria, Importer.
