This vineyard was established by Lindeman’s in the 1970’s and leased by us since the early 2000’s. The undulating site is on deep red volcanic clay, laden with dolerite, an igneous rock similar to basalt. This block of old-vines Chardonnay is planted on a southern slope, allowing the grapes to catch periods of high light intensity and lower temperatures, whilst avoiding direct contact with the afternoon heat. The grapes are hand harvested then fermented in a combination of Italian concrete, French puncheons and large oak ‘foudre’. Partial malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact add palate weight and build texture. The wine is rich with a focused fruit profile of citrus and white stone fruit and the finish is long with bright acidity. - Ollie Margan, Winemaker.
