The 2024 Oria~Riff Dry White and Dry Red consists of old vine Sémillon and Grenache, both planted in the 1960’s and coming from deep sandy soils on the cusp of Blewitt Springs, with Fiona Wood being the custodian of this block. Fi has a certain understanding and attention to the land that seems rare in modern day farming. Not only does she seem to read and understand the vines, but the level of care and detail in her work is unmatched. I’ve been lucky to be able to work for her in the vines and the knowledge I’ve gained through that is priceless.. The Grenache was just as simply made. Picked twice to have different components of ripeness, a high level of whole cluster and extended time on skins seems to really accentuate the savoury and high tone florals that this vineyard exhibits, along with long chalky tannins. This is a surprisingly coiled wine from these deep sands, that will love both time in a bottle and a decanter to unfurl. - Cooper, Winemaker.
