Lucette is something of a unicorn in the Spinifex range. This is just the second release in 10 years. Lucette is a cane-cut Semillon, whereby the vine’s canes are cut just before harvest, stopping the supply of water to the bunches and resulting in the berries shrivelling on the vine. Sugar levels rise as water is lost through the skins, but acid and flavour levels remain high. Pete gets his Semillon from two very old Semillon sites in Kalimna. The canes were cut in both parcels in the middle of March, and harvest occurred in mid-April at 15.5% potential alcohol. The fruit was chilled, then pressed to French oak for fermentation (45% new) and bottled just before the start of the 2024 harvest. The result? It is a delicately sweet wine with spring-fresh citrus grove aromas and a slippery texture balanced by bright acidity. It has delicious flavours of golden fruits, hints of spice and a delicious, candied ginger twist on the finish. Barsac on a budget! - Bibendum, Importer.
