The Old Vines Chardonnay block on HVD was planted in 1908 and is believed to be the oldest Chardonnay
vineyard in the world. This vineyard is situated between two dry creek beds and features free-draining, sandy soils over coarse river sand. 2025 was an exceptional vintage in the Hunter Valley for whites. Favourable conditions throughout the early parts of harvest, coupled with abundant rain ahead of the growing season meant crops levels were high, as was the quality of fruit.
The fruit was handpicked on 21 January and was immediately basket pressed. The juice was cold settled for two days before fermentation began in stainless steel tanks. The fermenting juice was then transferred to French oak puncheons for eight months’ maturation.
Straw-like colour with green hues. Focused and pure with complex aromatics, sherbet, juicy fruits and inviting
white stonefruit, with seamless balance from nose to palate. Chablis style with length, power and focus. Juicy
fruits with length, power and focus. - Tyrrell's, Winery.
